Martin Lyttle
Martin Lyttle is an Irish Stone Sculptor working with local Irish stone and based in south Co. Carlow. He studied and worked as an engineering geologist for 20 years until 2007, when he took up a long cherished desire to do stone sculpting by attending courses at Portland UK (2007) and at Salzburg, Austria (2008).
A sense of place and a concern for the natural environment informs his practice and his work concentrates on natural, organic forms and the composition and texture of the stone.
He is a member of the 9 Stone Artists with whom he exhibits regularly. He has completed several large Public Art Commissions and has been regularly selected for the Royal Hibernian Academy (RHA) Annual Open Exhibition and in 2018 he was awarded by the RHA the ESB Moran Award for Outstanding Sculpture.
